The Gokyo Lake Trek 10 Days is one of the most beautiful and rewarding adventures for travelers seeking an unforgettable Trekking in Nepal experience. Combining spectacular Himalayan scenery, traditional Sherpa culture, pristine glacial lakes, and peaceful mountain trails, this journey offers a quieter alternative to the classic Everest Base Camp route while still showcasing some of the finest mountain views in the Himalayas.

Located in the heart of the Khumbu region, this remarkable journey is a highlight of Everest Region Trekking, leading trekkers through picturesque Sherpa villages, ancient monasteries, alpine meadows, and dramatic glacial landscapes. Beginning with a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi Valley through Phakding and Namche Bazaar before gradually ascending toward the stunning Gokyo Valley.

Along the route, trekkers enjoy magnificent views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Cho Oyu, and Makalu while passing through forests, suspension bridges, yak pastures, and traditional mountain settlements. Compared to the busier Everest Base Camp trail, the Gokyo route offers a more peaceful trekking experience with fewer crowds and equally impressive Himalayan panoramas.

The major highlight of the trek is the spectacular Gokyo Lakes, a series of sacred turquoise lakes surrounded by glaciers and snow-capped peaks. These crystal-clear lakes are among the most beautiful natural wonders in Nepal and create a breathtaking setting unlike anywhere else in the Himalayas.

Another unforgettable experience is the early morning ascent of Gokyo Ri (5,357m / 17,575ft), widely regarded as one of the finest viewpoints in the Everest region. From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, the immense Ngozumpa Glacier, and countless Himalayan peaks stretching across the horizon.

This package is designed for travelers who prefer flexibility while enjoying a professionally organized trekking adventure. Operating on a comfortable Bed and Breakfast (BB) basis, it includes twin-sharing teahouse accommodation, daily breakfast, all required permits, government paperwork, domestic flights, ground transportation, and the services of an experienced licensed trekking guide.

Unlike full-board trekking packages, accommodation and meals in Kathmandu are not included, allowing travelers the freedom to choose their preferred hotels and restaurants according to their budget and travel style. Complimentary airport arrival and departure transfers are provided to ensure a smooth beginning and end to the journey.

Whether your goal is to explore the turquoise Gokyo Lakes, stand atop Gokyo Ri, photograph the world's highest mountains, or simply experience the beauty and serenity of the Himalayas, this trek promises an extraordinary adventure filled with unforgettable memories.

Accommodation and Food

Teahouse Accommodation

During the Gokyo Lake Trek, accommodation is provided in local mountain teahouses on a twin-sharing basis. Rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, offering an authentic Himalayan trekking experience. At lower elevations, some lodges may offer attached bathrooms, while higher up, shared facilities are more common due to remote mountain conditions.

Bed and Breakfast (BB) Basis

This package operates on a Bed and Breakfast (BB) plan. Daily breakfast is included during the trekking days and is served in the teahouses along the route. Breakfast options typically include items such as porridge, eggs, toast, pancakes, tea, and coffee, depending on the lodge.

Lunch and dinner are not included, allowing trekkers full flexibility to choose meals directly from lodge menus. This gives you the freedom to enjoy a variety of freshly prepared local and international dishes according to your preference and budget.

Kathmandu Accommodation

Hotel accommodation in Kathmandu is not included in this package. This allows travelers to select hotels based on their personal preference, comfort level, and budget before and after the trek.

Paperwork and Permits

All necessary trekking permits and government paperwork are fully included in the package and arranged in advance.

Depending on the trekking route and regulations, required permits may include:

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit
  • TIMS Card (if applicable under current regulations)

All documentation is handled by the trekking team to ensure a smooth and hassle-free trekking experience.

Domestic Flights and Transportation

All transportation mentioned in the itinerary is included in the package. This includes round-trip domestic flights between Kathmandu and Lukla, which are arranged in advance for a well-organized travel experience.

Peak Season Lukla Flight Notice

During peak trekking seasons (spring and autumn), most Lukla flights operate from Ramechhap Airport instead of Kathmandu due to heavy air traffic at Tribhuvan International Airport.

In such cases, ground transportation between Kathmandu and Ramechhap is fully included in the package. Trekkers are typically picked up early morning (around 2:00 AM) and driven to Ramechhap to connect with the morning flight to Lukla. All logistics are managed to ensure a smooth and timely connection.

Optional Add-On Services

Travelers who prefer a more flexible and comfortable trekking experience may choose the following optional services to customize their Gokyo Lake Trek 10 Days package according to their needs and preferences:

  • Lunch and dinner during the trek: USD 20 per person per day
  • Porter service: USD 25 per porter per day

A porter can comfortably carry up to 20 kg of luggage and is typically shared between two trekkers, making it a practical and cost-effective option for those who wish to enjoy the trail with a lighter daypack.

Additional hotel nights in Kathmandu, private transportation, and other travel services can also be arranged upon request at an additional cost.

This works perfectly for the Gokyo Lake Trek page and keeps the same style and conditions as your Everest Base Camp BB package. The wording is professional, clear, and sales-friendly without sounding repetitive.

Day by Day

Your itinerary.

Your adventure begins with an early morning scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the most spectacular mountain flights in the world. During the flight, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayan range before landing at the famous Tenzing-Hillary Airport. Upon arrival, you will meet your trekking guide and begin your journey into the heart of the Khumbu region.

The trail gradually descends through traditional Sherpa villages, prayer wheels, mani stones, and beautiful pine forests while following the Dudh Koshi River. Passing through small settlements such as Chheplung and Ghat, you will experience your first taste of mountain life in the Everest region. The walk is relatively easy and serves as a perfect introduction to the trek while allowing your body to begin adapting to the higher altitude. Overnight stay in a comfortable teahouse at Phakding.

After breakfast, the trail continues along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges decorated with colorful prayer flags. The route passes through beautiful forests of pine and rhododendron while offering occasional glimpses of snow-capped peaks.

After reaching Monjo, you enter Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to some of the world's highest mountains. Following permit formalities, the trail continues through Jorsalle before crossing the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge.

The final ascent to Namche Bazaar is the most challenging section of the day. As you climb steadily uphill, your first views of Mount Everest may appear on a clear day. After reaching Namche Bazaar, the bustling trading center of the Khumbu region, you can relax and enjoy the lively atmosphere of this famous Sherpa town. Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.

Today is an important acclimatization day designed to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. Rather than remaining inactive, the recommended approach is to hike higher during the day and return to sleep at a lower elevation.

After breakfast, you may hike to the famous Everest View Hotel, one of the highest luxury hotels in the world. The trail offers magnificent panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and other Himalayan peaks. Those interested in local culture may also visit Khumjung Village, known for its monastery, traditional Sherpa lifestyle, and beautiful mountain scenery.

Back in Namche Bazaar, you will have time to explore local bakeries, cafes, shops, and the Sherpa Culture Museum. This acclimatization day greatly improves your chances of a comfortable and successful trek at higher elevations. Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.

Leaving Namche Bazaar behind, the trail follows a scenic route toward the peaceful Gokyo Valley. Unlike the main Everest Base Camp trail, this route is generally quieter and offers a more tranquil trekking experience.

The path climbs gradually above Namche with spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Khumbila. After passing Kyangjuma, the trail branches away from the Everest Base Camp route and descends to Phortse Thanga, a beautiful riverside area surrounded by forests.

After lunch, a steady uphill climb through rhododendron, juniper, and pine forests leads to the small mountain settlement of Dole. As the altitude increases, the landscape becomes more alpine and open, with excellent views of surrounding peaks. Overnight stay in Dole.

Today's trek is shorter, allowing for a gradual and comfortable ascent toward the upper Gokyo Valley. The trail climbs steadily above Dole through open hillsides, alpine vegetation, and yak grazing pastures.

Along the route, you will enjoy outstanding views of Cho Oyu, the sixth-highest mountain in the world, as well as Kantega, Thamserku, and other surrounding Himalayan peaks. The path passes several seasonal grazing areas used by local Sherpa communities before reaching the peaceful settlement of Machhermo.

Machhermo is famous for its beautiful mountain scenery and its important role as an acclimatization stop for trekkers heading toward Gokyo and beyond. Surrounded by towering peaks and pristine wilderness, the village provides a perfect setting to relax and prepare for the higher elevations ahead. Overnight stay in Machhermo.

After breakfast, the trail gradually ascends through a wide alpine valley with stunning views of surrounding snow-covered peaks. The route follows the Dudh Koshi River upstream, passing yak pastures, glacial streams, and open moraine landscapes.

As you continue upward, the valley opens into a breathtaking high-altitude wilderness dominated by glaciers and towering Himalayan peaks. You will eventually arrive at the beautiful settlement of Gokyo, located beside the third lake of the Gokyo system. The turquoise waters of the lake reflect the surrounding mountains, creating a truly magical atmosphere. Overnight stay in Gokyo.

Early in the morning, begin a challenging but rewarding hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m), one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Everest region. From the summit, enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the vast Ngozumpa Glacier, along with the stunning chain of Gokyo Lakes glowing below in turquoise color.

After descending back to Gokyo village, take time to rest and explore the area before continuing your journey toward the 4th and 5th Gokyo Lakes. This section of the trail offers a quieter and more remote atmosphere, with dramatic glacier landscapes and incredible viewpoints of the surrounding Himalayan giants.

Later in the afternoon, begin your descent through the Ngozumpa Glacier valley toward Machhermo, passing alpine scenery, yak pastures, and peaceful mountain terrain. The lower altitude of Machhermo provides a comfortable and relaxing overnight stop after a long and rewarding day.

Overnight: Machhermo (4,470m)

After breakfast, begin your descent toward Namche Bazaar, following the beautiful trail down the Gokyo Valley. The route passes through traditional Sherpa settlements such as Luza and Dole, with continuous views of Thamserku, Kangtega, and surrounding peaks.

As you continue descending, the landscape gradually changes from alpine terrain to lush forests of rhododendron and pine. You will pass through Mong La, a scenic ridge viewpoint, before joining the main Khumbu trail. From here, the path becomes more lively as trekkers, porters, and local activity increase.

By late afternoon, arrive in Namche Bazaar, the vibrant heart of the Everest region, where you can relax, explore local cafés, or enjoy the mountain atmosphere after days in the high Himalayas.

Overnight: Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Today is the final day of trekking on the trail. The route descends through beautiful forests, suspension bridges, and traditional Sherpa villages along the Dudh Koshi Valley. You will pass through Monjo and Phakding before reaching Lukla.

After arrival in Lukla, the completion of your trekking journey is marked with a special evening celebration with your trekking team. It is a memorable moment to reflect on the journey, share experiences, and enjoy the success of completing the Gokyo Lake Trek in the Himalayas. Overnight stay in Lukla.

Early in the morning, you take a scenic flight back to Kathmandu, enjoying final aerial views of the Himalayan range, deep valleys, and mountain landscapes.
